Nigeria - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed media reports that a former Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, returned N1 billion to the Federal Government.

Germany is to investigate all military recruits amid fears Islamic State jihadists are trying to join its armed forces.

South Africa - In his first public appearance since investigators documented signs of government corruption, South African President Jacob Zuma told supporters on Saturday he wasn't scared to go to prison because he had been jailed during apartheid.
The Public Protector, an anti-graft watchdog, said in a report last week that a judge should investigate whether Zuma, cabinet members and some state companies acted improperly in their dealings with wealthy Indian businessmen.

Two Italian workers and a Canadian kidnapped in Libya in September have been freed and were flown to Italy early on Saturday, Italian and Libyan officials said.
Danilo Calonego, Bruno Cacace and Frank Poccia - were abducted on Sept. 19 in Ghat, southwestern Libya, near the site where they worked by an armed group that blocked the vehicle in which they were traveling, the Italian foreign ministry added in a statement.

One of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Islamist militant group Boko Haram from their school in north-east Nigeria's Chibok in 2014 has been found by soldiers, a Nigerian army spokesman said on Saturday.
Around 270 girls were kidnapped by the jihadist group, which has waged a seven-year insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic caliphate in the north-east, in April 2014.

A giant earthworm called Dave has made his way into the record books after growing to the size of a small snake.
The 40cm (15.7in) annelid, weighing 26g, is the largest earthworm ever found in the UK.
He was spotted by Paul Rees from Widnes, Cheshire in his vegetable patch and named by his stepson George.

Rolando Espinosa and fellow inmate Raul Yap apparently opened fire as officers looked for firearms and illegal drugs during a raid.
