Nigeria - Members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) were looking forward to the usual annual Thanksgiving Service with the General Overseer (GO), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye on Saturday but they were shocked when the GO announced a new leadership for the fastest growing church in the country.
The announcement coincided with prophesy of surprises listed by Adeboye in his annual prophesy released on December 31, 2016, while he urged members to join any political party of their choice in order to have a stake in the selection of leaders across the country.

Indian police have arrested a lawmaker from northeastern Meghalaya state on charges of raping a 14-year-old trafficked girl, an officer said on Saturday.
Julius Dorphang, a militant commander turned legislator, was arrested in neighbouring Guwahati city late Friday after evading police for several days.
“He was arrested last night and has been charged with raping a minor girl and human trafficking,” Vivek Syiem, a police officer in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong, told AFP.

Nigeria - Pastor Enouch Adejare Adeboye has retired as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God  (RCCG) in Nigeria.
He announced the decision on Saturday morning at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving of the Church in Shimawa, Ogun State.
Pastor Joseph Obayemi, former Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance was named as the new General Overseer.

Nigeria - The condensed factory of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc in Ogba Industrial Estate, Ikeja, Lagos, was razed by fire on Friday.
However, the fire was promptly put out by Lagos State Fire Service supported by the company safety team and neighbours.

Copyright Commission arrests 25 suspected pirates, seizes goods worth N76.5m in Lagos last year



Nigeria - The Lagos Zonal Office of the Nigerian Copyright Commission says it arrested 25 suspected pirates and seized goods worth N76.6 million in 2016.
Mr Obi Ezielo, the Zonal Manager of the commission told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that the commission also carried out the anti-piracy raids within the year under review.

Russia begins military withdrawal in Syria

Russia has begun to withdraw some of its military forces in Syria, Russian news agencies have reported.
Russia's naval fleet, led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier off the Syrian coast, will be the first to return.
"In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, (President) Vladimir Putin, the Russian Defence Ministry is beginning to reduce its armed forces deployment in Syria," General Valery Gerasimov said.

Nigeria resumes payments to former Niger Delta militants

Nigeria has resumed payments of cash stipends to former militants agreed under 2009 amnesty in the country’s Niger Delta oil hub, a government official said, on Thursday.

According to Reuters, the government had been holding talks with militants to end attacks on crude pipelines which reduced Nigeria’s output by 700,000 barrels per day for several months, last year.

Nigeria - The Presidency, on Thursday, announced that President Muhammadu Buhari has, over the past week, given instructions for decisive measures aimed at bringing an end to the recurring acts of violence and destruction in the Southern part of Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on the directive of President Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police was in the region on Saturday and Sunday, to assess the situation  firsthand.
