In Nigeria, FG invites BBOG for search sorties to Sambisa Forest over missing Chibok Girls


Nigeria - The Federal Government has invited the BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group for day and search sorties for missing Chibok girls to Sambisa Forest.

The trip will enable the campaigners to have firsthand information on the efforts being made by the Nigerian military to rescue the girls.

SpaceX to launch first Falcon 9 rocket since explosion



Elon Musk's SpaceX company is preparing to launch a rocket for the first time since a launch pad explosion destroyed more than $200m of equipment.
The Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to blast off from California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base at 5.54pm UK time today to put 10 satellites into orbit for the Iridium communications company.

One man has died after a cliff collapsed onto a beach in Suffolk, police have confirmed to Sky.
Police and the UK Coastguard received multiple 999 calls at about 1pm on Saturday, after the cliff fall at Thorpeness Beach.

At least 26 Yemeni fighters died in fresh clashes and an air strike as government forces advanced against Shiite Huthi rebels near a key shipping strait, medics and officials said Saturday.
A week-long assault by government forces and their allies aims to expel the Iran-backed Huthis from Dhubab region, close to the Bab al-Mandab strait linking the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.

Gambia talks fail as president refuses to step down

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh welcoming Nigeria's leader, Muhammadu Buhari, to Banjul

The Gambia's President-elect, Adama Barrow, has left the country after talks failed to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to step down.
Nigeria's president flew to Banjul to try to broker a deal but Mr Jammeh would not relinquish power.
Mr Barrow is now heading to Mali, where he will meet West African leaders attending a summit there, the BBC reports.

NAN reports that the Nigerian Military has successfully repelled attack by the Boko Haram terrorists at Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno.
Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the Director of Army Public Relations, said in a statement in Maiduguri that the operation was carried out on Friday.
According to him, the operation was carried out with the assistance of the Nigerian Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance planes.

Relief as NNPC resumes loading of petroleum products across Nigeria

Mr Ndu Ughamadu,the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), says the corporation has resumed loading of petroleum products in all its depots nationwide.
Ughamadu made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
He said that the resumption of activities at the depots across the country followed the suspension of strike by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers,(NUPENG).

The Military says it has successfully repelled attack by the Boko Haram terrorists at Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno.Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the Director of Army Public Relations, said in a statement in Maiduguri that the operation was carried out on Friday.
According to him, the operation was carried out with the assistance of the Nigerian Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance planes.He said “the futile attack, launched by the terrorists group from the shores of the Lake Chad in the evening, lasted till midnight.

Residents of the Iraqi city of Mosul said up to 30 civilians died in an air strike on a district held by Islamic State this week.
Locals said they saw at least three missiles hit the western Mosul al-Jadida area on Thursday, in a raid that appeared to target the house of senior militant Harbi Abdel Qader.

Head on collision between a bus and a benz in Asaba Nigeria, leaves 5 dead and 23 injured



Not less than five persons have been confirmed dead while 23 others sustained injuries in an accident involving a luxury bus and a Mercedes Benz 911 along the Anwai-Illah road, near Asaba, the Delta State capital at about 4am.
The remains of the dead victims were deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba while the injured were taken to two hospitals including St. Joseph Catholic Hospital and St. Rebecca Hospital also in Asaba.

Nigeria - A prominent ex-militant leader,  Africanus Ukparasia, yesterday, vowed to resist renewed threats by the Niger Delta Avengers to begin attacks on oil installations in the region.





Ukparasia, formerly known in the creeks of the Niger Delta region as ‘General’ Africa warned the avengers to stay away from the region especially his home state, Bayelsa.
The former commander of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) reportedly spoke in Yenagoa when he patrolled the creeks of Bayelsa.
