Egyptian police kill 16 gunmen in raids targeting militants

Egypt's Interior Ministry said on Saturday police officers had shot dead 16 gunmen in two shootouts, adding that most of those killed were fugitive militants linked to recent attacks on security forces in Northern Sinai.
Egypt faces an Islamist insurgency led by the Islamic State group in the restive Sinai Peninsula, where hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed since 2013.

Nigeria - No fewer than five persons lost their lives in the early hours of Saturday after a truck fell on a bus in the Ojota area of Lagos.
It was learnt that the occupants of the bus were church goers returning from a monthly vigil.

Nigeria - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, insisted it would go ahead with the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye, as they have not been served any court ruling or process.
The recall process is expected to begin on Monday, July 10.
Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court in Abuja had on Thursday, rejected Melaye’s ex-parte motion for a temporary injunction to restrain INEC from proceeding with the recall process.

Suspected Islamist militants beheaded nine men in an overnight attack on a village in the Kenyan coastal district of Lamu, police said, days after Somali militants killed three policemen in an attack on a nearby village.
Police said there were nine bodies. A witness, who asked not to be named, confirmed the death toll.

This is contained in a statement made available to the press on Friday by its spokesman, Tony Opuiyo.
DSS also revealed location and names of kidnap kingpins arrested in the last three weeks, Daily Post reports.

Nigeria - The Naira on Friday suffered marginal loss against the dollar at the parallel market in spite of CBN’s intervention at the foreign exchange market.
The Naira lost one point to exchange at N366, weaker than N365 traded on Thursday, while the pound sterling and the Euro closed at N468 and N412, respectively.

Bradley Lowery has passed on at age 6, after a long battle with neuroblastoma.
The Sunderland fan was diagnosed with the rare type of cancer, when he was 18 months old.

Ghana’s first satellite, dubbed Ghansat-1, was released and deployed into orbit at an altitude of 420 km, local media reported on Friday.

CAN set to organise prayers for Buhari's quick recovery

Nigeria - The Nasarawa State Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has setup a committee to intensify prayers for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari currently on medical vacation in London.
The state’s CAN Chairman, Bishop Joseph Masin made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Thursday.
